The journey begun with a 50mins Ferry Ride from Tenah Merah Ferry Terminal to Bintan Ferry Terminal. Once we have gotten through the customs, we were greeted by Bintan Sayang’s representative who quickly settled our return ferry ticket and got the car ready.
The car journey of 20 – 25mins drive from Bintan Ferry terminal to Bintan Sayang was pleasant as we drove past the local communities in Bintan before arriving at Bintan Sayang.
The first impression of Bintan Sayang: A getaway from the usual hectic lifestyle, most suitable for couples who wants to enjoy private time together without burning a hole in their pocket.
When we arrived, we were greeted by friendly resort staffs, presenting us with a welcome drinks. The entire check-in process was prompt, taking less than 5mins before we are able to check into the room.
Rooms are spacious, cosy and beautiful. Although the lightings are a bit dim, it does however give the room the feeling of ‘romance is in the air’.
Just outside the room is the balcony, equipped with a big wooden bench, facing the vast sea and having the sea breeze caressing your cheeks. The balcony is a perfect place to take your mind off matters and completely relax.
The room is however missing some essentials like a mini-bar and hair-dryer. Thus, especially for the ladies, do bring your own hair dryer if you need to. Bringing a two pin plug would be helpful as well as the water boiler in the room uses a 2 pin. I personally experience a bit of difficulty with the hot water system in the toilet, you will be required to wait for 3-5 mins for the hot water due to the resort’s upgrading.
Once we have settled down, we head on to the resort’s restaurant. The restaurant’s appearance is very rustic. There is no fancy table set-up or a romantic ambiance about it.
Hong Kong styled grouper fish
Deep fried squid
stir fried mussels with garlic.
Immediately after we have ordered, we could see the staff handpicked our grouper fish and mussels and sent it to the kitchen for cooking.
Everything was done very swiftly and we have our food served within 10mins. The food was so good that we further ordered another plate of deep fried squid, cleaned the fish all the way to its bones and finished up all the mussels and kangkong. We also highly recommend the avocado juice, it’s thick and refreshing taste would be a tasty alternative for dessert, and a good supplement for skin.
After dinner, we headed to play pool which is the resort’s newest addition to its array of entertainments before retiring back to our rooms for a good night rest.
We started off the morning with breakfast at the resort’s restaurant. The breakfast style was very Indonesian, consisting of Beehoon goring, Nasi Lamak rice, toasts and eggs.
All in all, the breakfast was simple and has more room for improvement as the main highlight of the breakfast was eggs,
and more eggs
However, it is still good enough to start off the day
After Breakfast, We went to enquire regarding the activities offered by the resort:
- Pond Fishing
- Offshore Fishing
- Snorkelling (available from April to October)
- Banana Boat
- Mangrove Tour
As of current, Bintan Sayang does not have a private beach, however, the nearest beach is just a stone throw away, being 5mins drive from the resort, busting with sea sports. We went ahead with pond fishing and rented 2 fishing rods ($16/4hours or $22/day) and a packet of bait (squid), chose a good location to try our first experience at fishing.
Due to the unstable weather, we decided to skip kayaking and went straight to rent bicycles to cycle around the resort, the scenary around Bintan Sayang is beautiful, one side you have the big sea and on the other is the nature.
After a good workout, we headed back to wash up before dinner.
We rented a car from the resort and headed to Tanjung Uban for some Nasi Padang which was delicious, after the Nasi Padang, we drop by a local’s favourites to try out what’s good!
For the satay and pancake, you may choose to dine-in or take away (like we did) and enjoy them in your resort room.
On the last day we decided to have a day of pure relaxation. We started off by going to the resort’s swimming pool for a dip. The pool is very well maintained with a lot of extra fun like the giant floating trampoline. The resort also provide free renting of sports equipment like Frisbee and volleyball to make the visit to the pool more exciting.
After half a day in the pool, we decided to take a stroll down the seabed as it was low tide to see what we could catch.
The seabed exploration was quite an experience as we easily lost track of time resulting in sun burnt skins. Therefore do remember to apply sufficient sunblock for the optimal experience. As time was tight due to our ferry departure back to Singapore, we did a quick checkout from the resort while the resort arranged a vehicle back to Bintan Ferry terminal.
Expenses for the entire trip for 2pax:
Cost of ferry: $64.20 (peak)
Cost of stay: $140 (3D 2N)
Food: ~$80 (for the entire trip)
Total expenses: $316.20
For a short getaway for 2, the total expenses for the trip were very affordable. It came down to less than $150 per person which is about the amount one would spend if you were to go out during the weekends in Singapore. Do also take a look at a slideshow of Bintan Sayang.
